Old unix/network admin here and it was interesting to see redhat ultimately overcome AIx as ibm’ platform of choice as IBM programmers were not able to keep up with army of open source programmers

Thanks for the tips. I've Linux on an old computer, it works well. I highly recommend Mullvad VPN also. I've always wondered about the updates on Linux, and as I am not an IT pro I have just thrown my hands up in despair and click download as I don't know what I am looking at, ALL of them could be backdoor spyware. Open source has me wondering how that actually stops the three letter agencies contributing - is there really that many good guys scrutinizing the Linux codes and add on Linux compatible software? Doesn't Open Source just make it a hell of a lot easier to be infiltrated by the bad guys?

Some people can build a car from scratch, & some of us just drive the infernal machines.

Ya, I use UBUNTU, but the technology is a means to an end, that is communication.

Great article, thank you. It's taken me a year to get around to it but now running Fedora. I am Gen X but not so far removed from early internet that I can't appreciate your post :-). Came here from Clif's Substack.

Switched to Linux did an episode on Qortal. Searched it on BitChute and got a lot of hits. I've been meaning to look more into Qortal. The Internet is becoming too controlled, we need options.

The last dual boot I did was OSX and Linux, maybe 10 years ago, and that was a pain. Yes Microsoft works hard to stymie all things Linux. I believe Hotmail runs on Linux now, or did for a while. I once had to write an app on Linux that would connect to a Windows database and the only options I had were to use Perl, or create a Windows app. I did it with Perl. Perl is kinda fun until you come back a year later and try to figure out what it's doing.

So I don't know about the dual boot with Windows 10. You may have to fool with the order, Windows might want to be first, or putting Windows first might screw the boot menu. I haven't dual booted anything since the Mac. And of course you can always run from USB but I wouldn't do that unless I was just trying it out.

Find an old puter, Linux does use less resources.

Thank you for the kind words.

My daughter is visiting and I switch into kid language even though she is 30. 'puter' is just a computer.

I haven't noticed you being a smart as on Cliffy's page. There are some there. Flat Earthers whom I just ignore. Logic is not their forte unless it involves twisting it.

Looked up Ira Levin. He has some impressive credentials.
